Wes Eary is an innovative and community-driven artist from Charleston, West Virginia, known for his pioneering work with alternative mediums such as black light and recycled materials. A graduate of West Virginia State University, Eary’s art often reflects a deep connection to local events, environmentalism, and the power of community.Eary gained early recognition for his black light creations, co-founding Hole In The Wall Studio with fellow artists Kim Shrader and Tyler Hudnall. The studio has become a hub for local artists, particularly through events like “The Black Light District,” which showcases immersive ultraviolet art installations. His work in this area has pushed the boundaries of traditional painting, allowing artists to explore new dimensions and contrasts through light manipulation. In addition to his work with black light, Eary is also known for his eco-conscious art installations. One of his most notable projects, Stained Water Windows, involved collecting tens of thousands of used plastic water bottles, filling them with colored rainwater, and arranging them in vibrant installations throughout Charleston. Inspired by the 2014 chemical spill that left 300,000 residents without access to safe water, this project served as both a creative statement on environmental sustainability and a poignant reminder of the impact of the water crisis. Eary’s ability to turn a local tragedy into an empowering community art piece earned him widespread recognition, further cementing his role as an artist committed to environmental and social causes.Eary's contributions to Charleston’s art scene were also celebrated when his design was chosen for the city’s ArtBus project in 2024, a testament to his growing influence. Whether through black light shows or large-scale environmental pieces, Wes Eary continues to push the envelope in creating art that not only captivates but also fosters unity and dialogue within his community.
