Top8 - 12/09/24
December 12, 2024 - 01:13 PM
Before we get into the blog this week, an apology. This article is always due on Mondays. This Monday, our website was down. Subsequently, I just forgot until Wednesday morning. And then I forgot again when I got home and made focaccia instead. Then when I tried to post the article, the damned website glitched and didn't save it. So, here we are Thursday morning. The focaccia did turn out well though. With that out of the way, welcome back to Top8. I have a new desk setup in my apartment and my lamp is kind of shining right in my eyes. It's a kind of a wonky, garbage lamp which I have just been too cheap to replace, so honestly I only have myself to blame. Metaphor, that. I continue......

Welcome back to Top8. I was starting to think that it would never get cold. I am the sort of person who enjoys this sort of weather. Not because of the holidays or any of that. Just because I am a cold hearted bitch. That said, the holidays are upon us. Holly Jolly Brawley is being set up mere feet from where I am typing this message. It's pretty and people are happy taking pictures and all that. And I am already sick to death of it all. For your sake and mine, stay out of my way when I am on my way to Taylors for coffee. Please send all original ideas for a photoshoot to wtsq.org/contact. This is one of those weeks when I found way too much cool music for one Top8. So, you're getting......

Welcome back to Top8. Hell of a week. I want everyone to know that we love you and we are on your side. I have no idea what else to say. Send hugs to wtsq.org/contacts The Cure - I Can Never Say Goodbye Well, here we are talking about The Cure again. I am really just checking in with you all to let you know that the new album, "Songs of a Lost World" is extremely legit. The band manages to do things here that you really don't expect – this is very much a Cure album, in the vein of classics Like Pornography or Disintegration. It also doesn't sound like its outtakes from previous albums. This is a band who know exactly who they are, but are not quite done figuring out all the ways......

Welcome back to Top8! I want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who supported our recent 2024 membership drive. We have brought a lot of new people onboard as sustaining members and if you're one of them, I just want to say thank you so much. We want to keep WTSQ on the air until the sun consumes the earth. Thank you for taking us one step closer. Please send all prophecies of doom to wtsq.org/contact. I am really excited to bring you all some new songs this week, so let's jump right in. Heavy Lungs - Get Out You know that Idles song Danny Nedelko? Well, it's about the dude in Heavy Lungs. The two bands come out of the Bristol, UK scene and have played shows together for......

Welcome back to Top8 where we ask you to top at least 8. If you're into that anyway. This is a week where I had way more tracks that I could include in this space, so you are just getting the things I loved the most. This is the Indian curry of new music. And just like a curry, it's HOT baby! Please send all recipes to WTSQ.org/contact Before we even get started today, I want to mention WTSQ's 2024 Member Drive taking place October 19th - 26th. This year we are asking you to keep WTSQ from becoming a Spirit Halloween location by becoming a sustaining member and keeping us on the air. Sustaining members kick in just a few dollars a month. This support plus The Dare - GirlsA......

Time for another Top8. I know what you're saying to yourself – "if only I had WTSQ, but in a text format with a shitty, opinionated attitude and constant references to shoegaze". Well, here you go. I aim to please (ish). Please send all selfies taken at the Sierra Ferrell show to wtsq.org/contact. The Cure - Alone I honestly thought this day would never come. New music from The Cure. More than that, a single released ahead of a new album that comes out in only about a month. We lived to hear this. The track is called "Alone" and it's… actually really, really good. It's kind of wild to me that this is a band that last released music more than a decade and a half ago......

We are halfway through September and still trying to escape from the tyranny of summer. 85F is hot to me. 90-something can go straight to hell. I haven't wanted to leave the apartment in months. This time of year is so depressing to me. Even at night, it's humid and hateful. It's hard for me to imagine that people crossed the landbridge into Alaska, came down into this continent, went east, and stopped here. In this valley. And stayed. Maybe they knew we'd have an Aldi one day. God knows. Send your theories to wtsq.org/contact. At least WTSQ is giving you the coolest music in history to compensate. Let's get into some new stuff. Ethel Cain - For Sure (American Football......

Welcome back to Top8. Hope everyone has had a good holiday weekend. Before I worked for the county, I worked basically every single Labor Day, while my boss had the day off. It's worth observing how deeply wrong that is. It's also unmistakable how great new music is (that's what we call a fluid transition in the business, kids). Lots of great stuff this week, including the new Fontaines D.C., Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, and The Last Dinner Party. Send your Labor Day vegan BBQ recipes to wtsq.org/contact. Fontaines D.C. - In The Modern World I want to start by looking at the entire new Fontaines D.C called "Romance". This is something of a departure from their previous......

I may have run out of ways to intro these blogs. Wait, actually, I could say that I don't have an intro. That buys me another fortnight. I have had an unusually good few weeks filled with people I care about and things that matter to me. Some of that has been new music, and I am glad to share it with you. Send all reasons to live to wtsq.org/contact. Father John Misty - I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All Starting things off with some Father John Misty. I could give you a mini bio of the guy right here. I won't. His name isn't John Misty. He isn't a Father. But FJM is a pretty divisive artist. A lot of people just plain hate him. He's worth paying attention to though, and......
